Compass Rose, or the Spiritual Orient
The passage between worlds (intellectual and sensory)
The ship is like the ark. It is the perfect symbol of the three days: the three levels of knowledge that protect the soul as it sails upon the black sea of emotions. The ship is balance, the scale of ancient tradition, the one that reveals evil and injustice in full light. The ship leads the soul out of ignorance, which is also death.
In the heart of the sea, man looks toward the horizon to discover what he carries within himself
The sea is represented by a letter symbolizing the waters, and it precedes the letter whose symbol is the serpent (also depicted as a great fish and its mouth). This coming passage, from the conscious to the unconscious, is ontologically emerald green. This tone is the deepest level of the human psyche.
The zodiac and the constellations of the four seasons
For ancient traditions, the permanent movement of life — the cycles — had to be maintained. Medieval illuminations depicted the twelve signs as an initiatory cycle: the tents of kings, whose great masters are Jupiter and Saturn.
The twelve signs are dedicated to the planet Saturn and are divided as follows: six signs in the ascending phase and six in the descending phase. The great cycles of our galaxy follow a hexadic logic. Saturn and its system reveal the twin of the sun: Jupiter.
Jupiter and Saturn form the most important symbolic pair in traditional astrology. They represent the opening of the gate, wisdom in becoming, and the foundations.
The four directions of space
The representation of the tree of life and knowledge is composed as follows: first, the compass rose, symbolizing the four directions; second, two pairs of twins; and finally, a divine principle.
The Leviathan
The Leviathan, often misunderstood because it is not integrated, is the divine intelligence that must be freed in order to enter the heart. The heart is the symbol of reversal.
In manuscripts, the Leviathan often surrounds ships, zodiac wheels, and star charts. It is the guardian of the passage. Jupiter urges one to confront it, while Saturn grants the strength to master it.
